Guide To Curtain Styles And Designs

January 14th, 2011

Curtains are sometimes not really thought about when it comes to interior design and updating the home. But adding new curtains in a fresh style and design can make a huge difference.

Here’s a quick guide to the styles of curtains that you can consider for your home and you can choose as part of your interior design.

Eyelet Curtains

This is an effective and simple design to achieve the minimalist look. Metal eyelets are sewn in at the top of the curtains where a narrow curtain pole is threaded through which gives natural folds in the fabric. This is ideal for medium weight fabric curtains and there are a wealth of eyelets to choose from.

Tab Top Curtains

A very popular type of curtain is the tab top headed curtain. Fabric that matches is attached to the curtain header along the whole width of the curtain. A curtain pole is threaded through the tabs. This type of curtain is ideal for medium to heavyweight curtains. You will need to consider the right width and weight of pole depending on the weight of the fabric.

Ring Top Curtains

You can also choose from curtains that have large curtain rings attached at the top where a curtain pole is slipped through. Ring top curtains are ideal for all types of fabric weights and are used in a variety of curtain styles.

Pencil Pleat Curtains

This type of curtain is very common in homes and is easy to hang. By attaching the curtain with tape at the curtain heading and inserting hooks on slider tracks it makes it quick and easy to install. The position of the curtain length can be adjusted according to which row the curtain is hung from. Ideal for lightweight fabric as well as medium fabric, pencil pleat curtains are a good choice for interior design and are quick to hang.

Box Pleat Curtains

Box pleated curtains are very sophisticated and give a tailored and structured look. Large natural folds fall to the bottom of the curtain and this style is easily adapted to a wide range of homes.

Pinch Pleat Curtains

This is a very decorative curtain design and is more gathered and structured at the top than the simple pencil pleat curtains. They have usually three stitched, gathered pleats in the curtain headings and look very tailored and smart.

Drape Curtains

Drape curtains can make a home look very sophisticated, classy and stylish and are ideal in homes with high ceilings and large windows. Swathes of fabric can be placed at the top of the window that allows swathes of fabric to drop down to give an elegant and grand look. Drapes look best in very heavy, thick and luxurious fabric, however sheer and light fabrics can also be used.
