Using Home Interior Design Software Can Make Your New Design A Breeze

    July 9th, 2009

When you are undertaking an interior design project, using a quality home interior design software program can be very helpful. It can help you choose colors and place furniture. There are many design software programs available, so choose wisely.

These software programs allow you to create the room you are decorating right on the computer. You can choose the measurements and shape of the room. Then you can place walls and windows where they are in your room. This allows you to try out different colors and designs on your own room right on your computer. Some home interior design programs will also let you download a picture of your room. Then you can really get a good feel of how a color or design will work in your space.

After you have created your room on your computer, then comes the fun part, trying out colors and designs. You can use actual samples of paint colors, flooring options, window treatments, lighting choices, and more. If a particular product that you are interested in is not featured on the home interior design software that you have chosen, you can import your own samples from other sites.

Another nice feature of design software is that you can plan furniture arrangements on the screen. No more moving around heavy pieces of furniture, only to change your mind and have to move it somewhere else. You can finalize your furniture placement on your program, and then move it to the desired location.

Home design software is especially helpful when planning a new home. You can choose from many exterior designs and finishes. You can see how your new home would look in brick, and then change it to siding. You can even plan out your landscaping.

When planning the interior of your new home or remodel, this software can be very helpful. Kitchens and bathrooms are the trickiest rooms to plan. With a quality design program, designing these rooms is a snap. You can change the layout as many times as you want until you find the perfect space for you. In the kitchen, you can import actual appliances and countertop choices. You can put together your dream kitchen all on your computer. Home interior design software allows you to get a snapshot of your new space before it is finished.

Using a great home interior design software program is the perfect way to design your home. It will help you to finalize your plans before you begin. This will help you save a lot of time, money, and effort on changing elements after you begin. Home interior design software is truly the wave of the design future.

Wall Tapestries As A Popular Choice For Home Décor

    January 16th, 2009

Textiles and tapestries have been used for hundreds of years in the decoration of homes and retain their popularity today. Tapestry is a sophisticated art form that enjoys a variety of cultural origins, media and historical contexts. A variety of designs can be transformed into tapestries including landscapes, still life, abstract, nature and fantasy. Several artists sign agreements to adapt their work in this way, adding a new perspective to the original design. Tapestry wall hangings enable the art lover to use creativity in enhancing the modern home with adapted designs.

A Modern Perspective on a Traditional Craft

Wool was used in creating traditional tapestries, particularly those from the medieval era. It was easily available and had the durability and strong bases for using dyes and pigments. Although mixing of fibre has occurred natural materials and dyes have continued to be used, and tapestry weaving has retained its reputation for using the very best of weaving technique and traditional materials.

More recently synthetic fibres have been incorporated with wool to create a more robust and longer lasting effect. This would have been the envy of many a Medieval weaver as the effect enriches the work and preserves the warmth traditionally associated with tapestry.

Thus old and new are blended to ensure the very best of modern wall tapestry. It is now possible to buy classic old masters in tapestry format that are enhanced in colours more vibrant than originally intended, mainly due to advances in dye and pigment production.

A popular choice for modern tapestry is chenille due to its flexible and adaptable nature. Used in a variety of domestic setting such as throws and tapestry it adds warmth and an elegant and sophisticated finish to home décor not achieved by some other materials.

Perspectives on Creating a Decorating Illusion

There are some spaces in the home that continue to be a decorating challenge. The modern wall may not fit with antique furniture, or a room may appear cold or too small. Using a wall tapestry helps to cleverly disguise these interior design issues as well as add a feature or create a basis for a theme. Adding warmth to a room or helping an area appear larger can be done with tapestry, and help make a home appealing to potential buyers. Using a well chosen tapestry can solve a multitude of decorating problems and add that special touch to furnishing.

Small spaces can be made to look less cramped by using landscape or a medieval traditional piece, bringing that freshness into a room. Creating illusions with a carefully selected tapestry ensures the eye is trained on looking outwards. Rooms can be lengthened instantly by horizontal tapestries, while a space can appear open by using those that feature doors and windows. Placing a series of small tapestries together in a large and cold environment will help a space look smaller and more intimate.

    Practical and versatile

A wall tapestry is a charming addition to the modern home in that space is enhanced and a feature for reflection is created. Tapestries continue to retain their popularity today and are as versatile and popular as they were in medieval times.

Eastern style tapestries enjoyed a short period of popularity, however they remain in vogue today. The pieces act as a record of a way of life abroad and a statement of places once visited, whilst giving an insight into the way in which Europeans perceived the Eastern world during the 18th and 19th century. In tapestry form they make a bold and distinct statement as a wall hanging in the modern home.

Fine art and tapestry was at one time the domain of the select few. Thanks to modern day high detail weaving techniques tapestry is something that is a classical and affordable piece for the home. Traditional fine art is enhanced by the detailed weave and texture of tapestry, providing a select and distinctive feature in interior design. Tapestry and fine art are now accessible to those who desire elegance and classical décor in their homes.

Morris once said,” Have nothing in your houses that you do know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” One of the most prolific artists of the nineteenth century, his works are seen today in modern homes and a testament to the fact that beauty does not age.

    DefiningElegance.com Presents Versai Bedding

    YouTube Preview Image

The Versai bedding portrayed in this video reflects the finest in luxury.  If you are looking for fine Italian Egyptian Cotton bedding, this is it!  Versai’s Diamante collection uses a true 1000-thread count fabric.

Many manufacturers must use four-ply yarns twisted together because their weaving equipment cannot handle the finer threads without breaking them. The true thread count can be 250, but some will count the four-ply yarn as 4 threads instead of 1, then describe the fabric as a 1,000-thread-count product.

Versai has perfected the technology and is not inhibited by fine thread limitations.

    Luxury Bedding: The Ultimate Escape

    July 31st, 2008

Luxury bedding is the ultimate escape into a world of calm and relaxation, a fortress of solitude that allows you to break away from the everyday stresses and demands of life. It has the unique quality of combining beauty with therapeutic effects. Luscious fabrics born of the finest European craftsmanship embrace and entice you to unwind.

The wonderful thing about luxury bedding is that it can be as simple or as extravagant as you want or can afford. Costs can range from $100 sheets to thousands of dollars for a complete look of duvet covers, sheets, shams, coverlets, bed skirts, and decorative pillows. Fine linens can be found in an array of fabrics including Egyptian cotton, silk, linen, and newer fabrics manufactured from wood fibers, with thread counts ranging from 250 to 1020. Consumers are no longer required to buy exactly what they see in a bedding collection. Many manufacturers offer the same color palates in their collections so you can mix pieces from different collections knowing that it will all coordinate.

So what happens when you can’t find exactly what you want? Customize your bedding, of course. Customized bedding can include monogramming, specific color combinations, or special sizes for non-standard beds. With so many options available on the market, there is no reason not to get exactly what you had envisioned as opposed to settling for what you could find.

Love the sheets from that luxury hotel, the romantic bed and breakfast you stayed at last year, or the cruise you took for your anniversary? These fine establishments offer their customers luxury bedding because they know and understand what their customers demand. In fact, after spending the night at a luxury hotel, many consumers are clamoring to purchase the bedding they slept in and are inspired to duplicate the setting for their homes. People respond to the calm, quite colors, soft elements of the linens, and the simple classic designs.

Luxury bedding can offer that balance one strives for at the end of the day to find peace and a quiet place for personal reflection. Give yourself permission to enjoy a little sabbatical from life by surrounding yourself with a little luxury. You deserve it.

Zoeppritz Offers Unique Soft Furnishings for the Home

    May 24th, 2008

    purity_thumb.jpgjump_thumb.jpg

Do you sometimes feel as if something is off balance or not quite finished when you look around a room? Even though you’ve carefully chosen the right elements and all the furniture is in the correct scale, it’s the final details that can sometimes make a room go from unimpressive to “Wow!” Personal touches and the unexpected are details that give a room its life. It tells the story of who lives there.

Zoeppritz is a leading manufacturer of home accessories, offering wonderful neutrals and vibrant colors in throws, blankets, decorative pillows, and more. Zoepprtiz is a German company that has been around since 1828 and uses conventional as well as innovative materials made of the highest quality to combine the traditional with the latest fashionable trends.

I found it interesting to learn that some Zoeppritz blankets once helped a German zeppelin airship avert a catastrophe. In 1928 “Graf Zeppelin” as it was called was on a flight and part of the outer casing of the zeppelin was damaged. Eight Zoeppritz blankets were used to cover the damaged area and prevented the airship from crashing to the ground!

I don’t think we have to worry about packing our Zoeppritz blankets on our next zeppelin trip, but we can use them to add punch to our décor. DefiningElegance.com carries the Zoeppritz collections. Everything from cashmere, fleece, wool, cotton, synthetics, and furs are available. My favorite is the Microstar throw. It’s a synthetic and unbelievably soft! It’s washable and it comes in many gorgeous colors. A word of warning though….adults will fight over it!

Here is a small sampling of Zoeppritz products found on DefiningElegance.com.

Zoeppritz Purity Decorative Pillow is 100% Cashmere. Available in 2 sizes and 6 colors. Button detailing.

Zoeppritz Jump Cube is 100% Springbok Fur and measures 16×16x18. Also available in a decorative pillow.

Zoeppritz Desire Throw is 100% Cashmere. Available in 10 colors.

Zoeppritz Highland Throw is made of 100% Lama-Alpaca. This throw is a generous 59×79.

Three Important Factors For Choosing Bedding

    February 21st, 2008

Of all the elements that go into decorating a bedroom and creating a personal oasis, bedding can have an amazing affect on the overall look and mood of the room. Your choice of bedding can accentuate or diminish your room-decorating efforts. You can spend an outlandish amount of time and money decorating your bedroom, but the wrong choice of bedding may leave you with disappointing results.

There are three important factors when making a decision on bedding: color, style, and quality.

When choosing bedding color and style check to make sure it is in sync with your decorating goals. First, think about the mood you are trying to achieve. This is sometimes an element that is overlooked by do-it-yourselfers. If you want calm and relaxation, stick with cool colors such as green or blue. If you want sexy or vibrant, choose warm colors such as red or orange. Create a sophisticated enclave with soft yellows. Neutral colors can help bring balance to any room. Add black for a dramatic effect and a touch of elegance and mystery. If using mostly neutral colors in the room be sure to add a splash of color for interest and contrast. A combination of neutrals and small amounts of color can create a cozy feeling. Different intensities of a color can create different moods. For example, soft pinks are associated with little girls or babies and are calming. Rosier pinks create a romantic feel to a room. Bright pinks, like reds, are energizing and stimulating. Many books are available that explain the effects of color and suggestions for color schemes. It is well worth the time to study this aspect of decorating.

Choose bedding that matches your personality or the personality of the person who will be using the room. Just because bedding may work for the room does not mean it is right its occupant. If the style preference is contemporary, then choose bedding with clean lines and unfussy details. Embroidery, jacquards, and some patterns are more traditional. Add decorative pillows in accent colors for a dramatic touch. Don’t forget the mood you are creating and keep the bedding formal or casual depending on your goals. Find bedding that makes YOU happy and meets all of your requirements. After all, we spend about a third of our lives in the bedroom. Why not make it your place of solitude or escapism where your can enjoy the fruits of your life and experience some self-indulgence.

Before making a decision, obtain a swatch or purchase a pillowcase or sham to determine if the fabric will work properly with your décor. Fabric color and texture can take on a completely different appearance depending on the room’s natural and artificial lighting and at different times of the day.

Initially you may have seen the bedding in a store and may have loved the color. But colors are not constant and are greatly influenced by light and other colors. They may look dramatically different in different environments. Or, you may have seen the bedding on the Internet, but colors on the Internet are never a perfect match to the real thing. Consider that Internet colors are often distorted first by the photography and software, then by your monitor and computer hardware. Two computers with the same hardware can still render colors differently because the color settings may be different.

Purchase high quality bedding for its durability and luxurious look. High thread count sheets in Egyptian cotton are good indicators of high quality linens, but other fabrics are offered in luxury linens as well such as silk, linen, and organic cotton. Purchase the highest quality sheets and bedding you can afford. Why spend money on bargain bedding that will soon pill, fade, and loose its luster? Dress your bed with quality linens in the right color and style for you and your décor and you’ll have a private sanctuary that you’ll love for years.

Creative Ways To Find Quality Fabric At Bargain Prices

    December 8th, 2007

Sometimes it is the hunt for the right fabric that is more satisfying than the actual item itself. If you’ve ever come across an amazing store or resource for fabulous fabrics at low or no cost, then you know what I mean. Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing and possibly save money at the same time:

    1. Look for fabric outlets that offer quality or seconds at lower than retail prices. If you are fortunate enough to live near a large city, chances are there are many resources for fabrics. For example, New York is famous for its garment district and many treasures can be found. Plan a trip with friends or find an organized group that makes fabric buying trips. You’ll be overwhelmed with the possibilities and be in the company with like-minded shoppers who can offer advice and encouragement. If you can afford it, take advantage of trips to Paris and Hong Kong often advertised in sewing magazines such as Threads. You’ll be with a group that knows where to find the best buys and is familiar with the area…and you’ll make new friends.
    2. Join the American Sewing Guild. This organization is dedicated to the sewing enthusiast, offering neighborhood meetings, national sewing conferences with classes, and discounts. This is a great networking opportunity to get help with sewing projects and many times members either want to swap or give away fabrics. I just came home recently with about 60 yards of fabric that a member was giving away! And she still has more!
    3. If you like to shop at flea markets or second hand stores, these can be a tremendous resource for design details, fabrics, and unique hardware pieces. Also shop at high end stores for design details and the latest trends in styles and colors. Think outside the box and collect things that will work for your projects. Be sure to purchase plenty so that you are not caught short. You may also want to experiment so plan accordingly.
    4. Be sure to use quality lining. If you can’t find quality lining through any of the above resources, then you may want to shop online. However, even if you have to spend top dollar for it, it’ll be worth it because without quality lining, your window treatments may not hang correctly and you’ll shorten the life of them. Try shopping online for fabric, too, especially if you can’t find what you’re looking for through other means.
    5. These are just a few ideas and I’m sure many of you have some of your own. If you’d like to share your ideas for finding fabrics or your own home decor projects, let us know and we’ll post them here.
