Kitchen Renovations – East-Meets-West Kitchen Design Concept

February 9th, 2011

A houses kitchen is a free zone for the person who loves to cook, and it is also the oasis of the rest of the family. It is important for a kitchen to convey a welcoming atmosphere, which is why no matter how expensive your kitchen renovations usually are, the efforts and expenses dedicated to improving the kitchen is always worth it.

Last weekend when we visited a friend’s home, I was very eager to see the kitchen since we were also trying to see fresh kitchen renovations ideas. The area really looks unique and amazing. It has a very Asian ambiance, a combination of red and green walls with a very natural shade of brown for its cabinets. But what was very noticeable in the kitchen was the clear contrast between the color scheme and the very modern furniture. The kitchen is like an East-Meet-West film scenario. But instead of being unattractive to the eyes, it looks very welcoming. It’s almost like a chef in western outfit (a white coat, pants and headwear) could come out any moment to cook some all-Asian cuisines for us!

It’s not unordinary to see a room with opposing characteristics that reflects an image of fun and enjoyment. However, such designs, if not done in careful moderation, could end up making the room look revolting. The owner of the kitchen we saw told us he consulted a professional interior designer to do the area. When asked if he spent a lot on the kitchen, he revealed that it was not as expensive as it looks. Apparently, at the beginning of the project he told the designer that he wanted a modern unique look for the kitchen with the brown cabinets and green walls, and he also told him his budget for it. The designer said that originally the cost of the project would be more than the budget he prepared for the renovations, but with a few twist and adjustments on the design the owner preferred they could still come up with an amazing kitchen design with the same costs.

The room started off with a very Asian look. The walls were painted with a nice jade color which is very soothing to the eyes and has a calming effect, and the lower areas of the room’s walls are lined with lava red. The cabinets have a raw umber color, adding to the very natural ambiance of the place. The sink is made of stainless steel, the floor is faux wood. The electric appliances are not the top-grade ones, but their quality is still noticeable. Apparently the designer told my friend to shop for certain brands of quality appliance that are more metallic in color.

The kitchen, and the whole house for that matter, was only a few months old. Obviously, it will take a few years or so for the kitchen to need a renovation. But when the time comes for the inevitable revamp, it probably wouldn’t need to have a change in design. Just some restoration works would do, since it really looks great as it is.

A lot of people would want to try creating their own version of the East-Meet-West kitchen design concept, or something very similar to it. Any homeowner would want to achieve a fun atmosphere in their kitchen. If you are one of them, it would be best to consult an interior kitchen designer. True enough, your kitchen renovations could be more expensive if you hire a professional designer, but it is the best way to make sure that every dollar you spend for your cooking area is worth it.

Kitchen Renovations – Finding Your Perfect Colour Scheme

February 7th, 2011

Colors matter. That is an undeniable fact. A room’s atmosphere can be pleasant and relaxing, or it can be cozy and invigorating, depending on the color of the walls or the furniture. That’s why if you are planning to do a kitchen renovation and you want to do a total make-over, then it would be nice to pick a fantastic color for your kitchen that will uplift your mood. So here are some suggestions from our great kitchen renovation ideas compendium that will surely help you find the perfect color for your kitchen.

If you want the more upbeat and happy colors, you can choose from the bright tints of red, yellow. Studies show that red could increase one’s food appetite, yellow gives off a cheerful atmosphere. A deep red color puts on a very romantic, serious ambiance but it’s not really good to paint the kitchen walls all red since it quickens your pulse rate and has a tendency to induce feelings of anger or annoyance. A bright and sunny yellow is a playful color and kids really like it. Fast-food restaurants usually use either a combination of these two colors or some tints of both to influence the costumers’ mood and appetite.

And you could take a good shade of blue, if you want to achieve a calming ambiance and a classy, elegant look. Fact is, studies tell us that this color is an appetite suppressant, which is why we often skip this color in the food we prepare. But it could be a good color for the kitchen if you use it to balance the very vigorous feeling that red and yellow exudes. It’s very tricky to use in the kitchen, but when you select a good color that would match this, it would look wonderful in your kitchen.

Brown is also a warm and homely color which emits a comfortable feeling because this color is very natural. Old-style kitchens usually have brown colors for their cupboards, cabinets, tables and chairs. A perfect shade of yummy brown increases your appetite, so it would be great on the dining room, and it would be nice for your kitchen. If you combine it with colors like blue or pink you would achieve a modern yet classy kitchen look.

White probably is the favorite kitchen color because of its clean look. If you want a more contemporary look, you could take white and combine it with another clean color such as black, or pair it up with some glossy or metallic color. It provides for a futuristic and modern atmosphere in your kitchen. There’s also the purple color which is very chic and elegant, and would be a good addition to the white and black color scheme. However, it’s also tricky to use purple in the kitchen. So instead of a white-black-purple kitchen, it is easier to have white and peach. Peach is bright and relaxing, and cozy, which is why it is a very popular color for the kitchens. A white and peach color combination would give a clean and comfy atmosphere.

It would be better to avoid a monochromatic color palette so that your kitchen won’t look too boring. You can mix and match any of these colors, or you could take one color from these suggestions and combine it with your favorite color. Don’t be afraid to show your personality when trying to find a good color for your kitchen. You can have a bold and daring color scheme, or you can choose a serene and calming one. It’s your kitchen, so it’s you and your choice that matters, even if you do consult a designer.

Just a little reminder from our collection of kitchen renovations ideas – make sure that your lighting goes well with your kitchen color scheme so you will have a wonderful kitchen that will be the subject of people’s admiration.

Kitchen Renovations – Preparing for Your Own

February 6th, 2011

It might be that your kitchen has lost its great relaxing atmosphere that you don’t enjoy preparing meals anymore. Maybe you wanted to incorporate some improvements in it. Or maybe you just wanted to improve your home’s selling potential so you wanted to have a wonderful kitchen. Whatever your reason is, the point is that you wanted to remodel your kitchen. But the thing is you probably don’t know what to do first, or where to start with your kitchen renovations. If that is the case, then fret no more. We are going to point you to the right direction with these tips in preparing for a kitchen make-over.

Do a general evaluation of the kitchen. And ask yourself these questions: Do you really want to change what you already have? Is there a necessity for a kitchen remodeling? It is possible that your kitchen just needs a general cleaning session which would mean a good and hard scrubbing of the floors and the cupboards. Moreover, do you think your finances could cover the renovations that you have in mind? If you say yes to all three questions, then you are ready to take the next step.

Decide on the design that you want for your kitchen. You can search for great designs on interior design magazines and books, and even on the internet. Or you can consult an interior designer. Choose the perfect colors for the walls, the floor and the cupboard. And if your budget allows it, you can also find new furniture or kitchen appliances that could enhance your kitchens look and functionality. You can let your personality show in your kitchen’s design. You could try out a sophisticated and modern look, or you could choose something classy and elegant. Be imaginative and realistic at the same time—remember to choose a design that will be okay with your budget. And if you have already chosen what you want your kitchen to look like, you can proceed on to the next step.

Make sure of your budget capacity. Check out the prices of the materials and equipments you would need for the renovations. Ask some contractors their kitchen renovation quotes, compare and evaluate the services and the costs, and decide on which contractor to hire. You might need to make a few adjustments, but if you have chosen a kitchen design that is close to the budget you have, then it would not be a major trouble to make some modifications on your plan. Also, remember to have an allowance on your budget for miscellaneous and emergency expenses.

Consult your builder or contractor if it is your job to prepare the necessary permits for the remodeling. And if it is, then prepare everything and make sure you have the paperwork ready so that you can start with the project.

Days before the start of the renovations, clean up your kitchen. Take all the china, the kitchen utensils, the appliances and furniture that could get in the way. Check the cupboards for things that might have been left there, so that when the project is started there won’t be anything that could be damaged in the process of renovation.

Having a kitchen renovation could be troublesome, so preparing for it beforehand saves you time, effort and the cash that you would have wasted if you just launched on having the remodeling without any preparation. Moreover, it helps you prioritize the changes that you wanted for your kitchen, your kitchen renovation would surely move smoothly with lesser troubles. Prevention is better than cure, as they say, so if you make the necessary precautions, then you will have nothing to worry about.

Kitchen Renovations – Choosing the Perfect Faucet!

February 5th, 2011

Your kitchen maybe great today, but after a few years or so, it will need changes, either for improvement, or for repairs. It’s just a matter of time. That is why as early as now, it would be a wise move to save money, especially since kitchen renovations could really get very expensive. Even more so if you would have to work on your sink and plumbing repairs.

Aside from saving up for future renovation needs of your kitchen, there is one thing you can do to save yourself from so much hassle, and that is to buy and install only quality materials for your kitchen. If you are working on your sink and faucet, you should not use faucets and sink is that would easily break down after having the results of the everyday use for only a few months or a few years. If you use only quality materials, you don’t have to spend your money for repairs so soon.

Shopping for your kitchen renovation is easier and faster if you have already decided on what to get, so if you are going to the hardware store to buy kitchen faucet, make sure you know what you are planning to get. You can get some ideas on the internet, so if you are planning to have kitchen renovations soon, you might want to start browsing the web now. Anyway, here are a few tips on how to find quality faucets you can use in your kitchen.

There are lots of kitchen faucets to choose from. You may want to have a wall mount faucet, a center set, a pullout spray style, bar sink faucet or other kinds of kitchen faucet. Wall mount faucet is attached to the wall and reaches over the sink, providing a dramatically neat appearance. A center set is a very common faucet for bathrooms and kitchen because of its elegant look, with the spout and two handles usually compact and connected. There’s also the pullout spray style which is more like a replacement of the spray wand. The bar sink faucets are nice enhancement to the aesthetics of the sink area if you want to achieve a “bar look” for the kitchen.

You also have to decide if you want a single or double handle style first. If you want a more classic, elegant look, the double style is perfect. Aside from its stylish and graceful guise, it also lets you have an option to have hot or cold water in a single outlet. With that, it is easier to regulate the water to be used for food preparations. On the other hand, a single handle style may not be able to do the same functions, but it definitely looks more modern and chic. It is great for a kitchen with a contemporary design—those which has the more industrial look.

You don’t have to select based on the aesthetics alone—it doesn’t necessarily mean that the shiniest or the glossiest faucets would be best for your kitchen. The elegance of a faucet is not the only thing to consider. There is also the functionality of it. Moreover, there are faucets that might look great but easily break, which is a total fail for a kitchen. Apparently, almost everything is on a standstill if you are having a faucet or sink problem. You have to prioritize the functionality and quality considerations. Don’t worry, you don’t have to sweat it out to much, there are lots of great faucets which perfectly fit the aesthetics of the kitchen and are very beneficial to cooking and preparing meals.

Although you might have to spend more for your kitchen right now, at least you are saved from early problems that usually comes up in just about six months or so of using your kitchen. This way you can save more for a real-deal kitchen renovation and achieve the perfect changes you wanted for the kitchen you value so much.

Kitchen Renovations – Four Tips On How To Live Through Your Kitchen Renovation

February 4th, 2011

You planned it all out—how your kitchen will look like afterwards, the budget that you would probably need, the permits that need to be prepared and the paperwork that have to be submitted. You have already consulted a contractor and hired a builder. You have looked up on the materials, the kitchen appliances equipments… You believe that you already have it all covered, and you think that you are ready to start with your major kitchen renovations.

So you get started. Now while the kitchen is under renovations, only then did you realize that you can’t prepare meals at home for a while since your kitchen is having a major make-over that could probably take more than a few days, two to three weeks, or even a month if you want to change starting with your kitchen floors to your cupboards. Indeed, this is one of the troubles of having a major kitchen renovation. You usually don’t have two kitchens in a home, and while your kitchen is undergoing some serious transformation, the daily food preparation for you and your family is going to be a real problem.

Well, it would be alright if you are all alone and you are on a diet, but that is not usually the case for most homeowners. It will not be good to let your family go hungry for a month until your kitchen is done, so here are four things you can do that will get you through your kitchen renovations.

Set up a temporary kitchen in some other convenient area in your house. You’re sure to find a place in your house where you can prepare meals for the time being, while your kitchen is still under renovations. It would be okay to just order some pizza, but it wouldn’t be a good and nutritious meal for the kids, plus there would come a time that they would get bored of always eating pizza and would prefer some homemade cooking. You can also have some barbecue outside once in a while, as long as it’s on your budget. Your children would love this.

Remember to include a food allowance to your financial preparations, and make sure that you allowed for a two months worth of food. That’s to make sure that even if the renovation goes for more than a month, at least you won’t have to starve yourself and your kids. When you say food allowance, that doesn’t just mean the ingredients for the meals to be prepared at home, it also includes the cash you would need if you want to dine at some restaurant or call for some pizza.

You might also want to tell your mom and dad that you are having your kitchen renovations. They probably invite you to dinner at their home. Don’t you just miss your mom and her home-cooking? This way you get to have dinner with them again. Moreover, it saves you too, and in more ways than one. ?

Don’t forget to consult your contractor or builder and talk to him about the project before starting anything. You can ask him to make a timeline about when the project might be completed which would help you prepare for your kitchen renovations survival plan. Aside from that, you can also ask if there could be problems that might come up so that you can make some precautions and backup solutions for delays or problems that might crop up. Great contractors for kitchen renovations would do their best to speed up the work and accommodate to your preferences and concerns.

Kitchen Renovations – Five Parts of the Remodelling Process for Your Ideal Kitchen

February 4th, 2011

For those who love to prepare good food for themselves and their family, it’s not just the food they prepare that usually reflects their love for cooking, but also their kitchen. If you are one of them but your kitchen is not structured to provide you all you need in cooking nutritious gourmet food, then it must be time for your own kitchen renovation to be undertaken. All you need for the initial preparations are yourself, your check book and a budget plan that carefully considers all the factors that need to be taken into account when preparing for a major change in your kitchen.

Anyway, there are 5 parts to the process of a kitchen remodelling. The first part is the planning. There are many things to be planned out, such as your budget, the kitchen design, the things to be bought for the remodelled kitchen, and the project time frame. Planning is a very crucial part of the kitchen renovations and other renovations that should be done in a house. A few people do not even consider planning for whatever they wanted to accomplish in their house, and usually their attempts on structural changes in their homes end up with an incomplete and unsatisfactory renovation.

Second part is the cleanup and keeping of all the things in the kitchen that could get in the way with the project. This should be done a week or a few days before the start of the renovations. Check every area of the kitchen, the cupboards and the cabinets for kitchen equipments, kitchen wares, food containers and canisters, or preserved and canned food that were stored for a long time. If you have enough time, clean up the dust that have accumulated overtime in the smallest areas so that it would be easier to do things like wall and cupboard repainting.

Third is the construction or repairs, depending on the needs of your kitchen or your personal preferences. This is where the real works start. You can decide to do the tasks yourself if you think you are up to it. But it might be better if you hire a contractor or builder if you don’t have any carpentry skills, or if you want to finish the project as fast as possible without compromising your job. Make sure that you have all the materials ready for construction to minimize any possible delays. If sky is the limit for your kitchen renovation budget, then choose the best quality materials for your kitchen since it would be a good investment. If you hired a builder, personally check the progress of your kitchen renovations so that you can be as personal as possible with this project.

Check for any further improvements or repairs that need to be done, stuffs that your eyes missed when you were checking on what to do for the renovations. There might be some areas in your kitchen that needs to be repaired but you haven’t noticed it at first. This would be the perfect time to do the repairs for such areas while you are still on the process of finishing the project. Anyway, your builder will probably call your attention to such problems so you don’t have to worry too much about it.

And lastly is the finishing touch. Do a final evaluation of the kitchen area. Clean up the area if you did the renovations on your own. If you hired a builder, they would probably do the finishing touches for you. If everything went fine with all these steps, then you now have a fine kitchen that you can be proud of. Kitchen renovations are not very hard to plan out, and are worth every effort exerted for its completion. For those who just completed their kitchen renovations before the yuletide season, I’m sure you are thinking that a nice kitchen is surely a great gift you can give to yourself. Happy holidays!

Build Your New Kitchen The Right Way

November 19th, 2010

Rushing through the kitchen building process is never a good idea. It’s especially unwise to speed through the design process, since it lays the groundwork for the entire project. You’ve got one major shot to get things right, so it pays to take you time. Learn more about building a new kitchen below.

Make Usability Your Priority –

Some kitchen designs, no matter how appealing the features look, may not at all be effective in terms of how comfortable you and your family are in using your kitchen. Sit down and get the feedback of everyone who uses the kitchen on a regular basis. Find out which features of the current kitchen are the most annoying to them, then make sure to avoid them in your new design.

Don’t Cram in Too Many Elements –

The number of varying features that you can add in to your kitchen will be limited, in a way, to the amount of space you have available. While it’s tempting to include as many different nifty elements as possible, the reality of trying to navigate your way around a cramped kitchen isn’t very pleasant. Remember to be practical about space when designing your new kitchen; you shouldn’t feel claustrophobic when preparing a meal in it. Roominess is an essential feature that needs ample consideration and which can be achieved in kitchens of different sizes.

Include Plenty of Counter Space –

Think ahead when planning out your dream kitchen. For instance, will you have an over-the-counter microwave, or will you be using one that you place on a counter? Tally up how many different small appliances and other items you’d like to keep on the counters in your kitchen, then figure out how feasible it is. Even when everything is properly arranged on your kitchen counters, there should still be plenty of extra space for preparing food and drinks. If there isn’t, your design scheme will have to be tweaked – after all, you can’t prepare food on the floor!

Make Logical Choices –

In terms of layout, your kitchen’s design scheme should be as sensible as possible. For instance, it makes all kinds of sense to place the dishwasher near the sink – you don’t want to cart dripping dishes across your kitchen in order to load the dishwasher. Similarly, your refrigerator should be reasonably close to your oven. It’s small, logical touches like these that can make or break the design and usability of your new kitchen. Take your time with each and every decision – as small or large as it may be – and you’re a lot more likely to end up with the kitchen of your dreams.

You’re definitely going to want to enlist the help of a professional kitchen design Brisbane firm when remodeling your kitchen. Such professionals as Craftbuilt Kitchens http://www.craftbuilt.com.au/ know all of the ins and outs about redesigning kitchens Brisbane. Still, the basic concepts should come from you, so be sure to give them plenty of thought and consideration.
