Ideas to Design a Dream Kitchen

March 31st, 2012

By Lawrence Reaves

A dream kitchen is one of the most desired items in a house, as it is one of the key focal areas of any home. You need to remember that remodeling a kitchen is actually a pretty straightforward thing. You do not have to worry about too many pipes as with a bathroom. And you will find that cabinets and your appliances are usually pretty square and will fit as they are supposed to. Also know that there is huge mark up in labor and materials for putting in a new kitchen. So you may want to think twice about spending 20,000 dollars for a new kitchen when you can do it yourself.

Of course, people who are not experienced builders shudder at the thought of putting in a kitchen themselves. You really can do it. What you need to do is get some graph paper and a couple pencils. Measure the whole kitchen and lay out the floor plan. You can make a scale map pretty easily if you measure it all accurately.

Now you are going to want to select the appliances you want. The good thing about most of these products is the sizes are fairly standard. You know a stove is going to measure 30 inches across, and you know that a dishwasher is going to be 24 inches. Fridges of course can come in several sizes.
Next, you have to decide about where your water is going to be coming from. It is a good idea to try to keep the water sources about where they are or you are going to be into some serious work. If you are ok where the sink is, you will not have to move any pipes. This is also the case with the dishwasher. If you do want to move the location of one of these, this is what they invented the extension pipe for, so don’t worry. Remember that if you start messing with the water lines, know where the water shut off is both in your house and in the street.

Kitchen cabinets can vary a lot in price so be ready for that. The most pricy part of most cabinets is going to be the front door. You actually can put together cabinets yourself and save a ton of money. You will need to draw in where the cabinets are going to do on your paper. Remember that the hardware is a place where you can save a lot of money. Buy a lot of that stuff online and watch how much you can save.

You should try to not buy granite countertops as you are not going to get your money back, but you can make due with laminate just fine.
If you will follow some of these tips to create your new kitchen, we think that you will really like how it looks. And you should be able to get more for your house when it comes time to make the sale in a few years.

How You Know When You’re Ready To Talk To Interior Designers

February 21st, 2012

What are some of the things that you should be focusing on during 2012 as you strive to inject some “life” into your home? You might feel as if you have run out of inspiration. You may often feel like this as these days there is so much pressure at work or in school situations. Sometimes we believe that it’s easier just to accept the status quo and leave things the way that they are, rather than trying to spruce things up a little bit. When it comes to interior design there are a number of areas we can focus on to kick-start the inspiration and to push forward to greater things.

For example, the chances are that as you walk around your home you will find a number of things that may be broken or need attention and in their own little way will irritate you every time you see them. Don’t let this happen as it will automatically deflate some of the positive energy that you might otherwise be able to focus on. Rather than ignoring what needs to be done here, make a list of everything that needs to be repaired. If you do it yourself, set a date – maybe this Saturday – to do it all. If you’re unable to do it all yourself, be sure that you hire somebody to come in and do so. The house will look better and you’ll feel better too.

Are you making practical use of each and every room in your house, or certain areas of particular rooms? If not, see how you can re-purpose this space, as you can’t afford to be wasting any of those precious resources that you have invested in. A particular nook for example might be a great place to set up a little desk area for that new scrap booking project that you want to take on board.

If you want to repaint a particular room but are not sure where to start, or might be unsure about a particular colour palette, designers today suggest that you should trust in nature to help you decide your approach. It’s great to bring the outside world inside, so why not take a stroll around and get some inspiration from Mother Nature.

Go into the garage and spend some time looking through the boxes that you have stored in there. This can have a dual purpose. First of all, if you really find that there’s nothing inspirational in any of the boxes, then do you really need to keep all of that junk, in any case? If it doesn’t have any value as such and it certainly can’t have much sentimental appeal if it’s stuffed into some old box somewhere, then get rid of it. If you do find something inspiring take it out of the box and try and incorporate it into the decor of one of your rooms. Be imaginative and you’ll be surprised what you can come up with.

Now that you have got those inspirational juices flowing it’s time to start talking with interior designers having many professional organisations ready to take your new home design to the next level.

Creating A Homey Family Kitchen

January 17th, 2012

Having your family spend quality time talking and eating together is a fantastic way to communicate with each other and maintain a healthy relationship as a family. Creating a suitable and well- structured kitchen can provide you with the perfect family bat cave; a place where everyone comes together to eat breakfast and dinner and discuss work and education. Planning a kitchen renovation can be a wonderful way of creating this place, but there are things to consider before any remodeling starts.

You must consider factors such as the layout of the kitchen, the space available to you, suitable features and fixtures and an appropriate color and design. Doing this correctly can have a wonderful effect on both the design and presentation of your home, and the how practical your kitchen is for your family’s needs. Here are a few simple ideas to consider when creating your dream family kitchen!

Have a Suitable Kitchen Layout

Planning ahead and thinking about where you want to position features such as the family dining table (if you decide to place this in the kitchen) can help you get a good idea of how much space you will have left over. Having a suitable amount of space left in your kitchen is quite important if any family members make home cooked meals on a regular basis; squeezing through a crammed kitchen whilst preparing an family dinner is not practical and can potentially be fairly dangerous.

If you choose to purchase a matching set of kitchen appliances then strategically space them out around your kitchen, this is an effective way of bringing a matching color scheme together. Coordinate this with the color and tone of curtains and blinds, tea, coffee and sugar pots and other small features around the kitchen.

Kitchen Family Features

Ensure the fixtures and features of your new kitchen provide for all of your family’s needs. If the working members are usually in a rush first thing in the morning then an coffee maker that has a timed feature may be hugely useful to them, as might a high powered toaster. Modern fridges are available with built in water and ice dispensers, this can prove to be a great way of encouraging the young ones to drink more water. The simple function of pressing a button to get water and having ice available next to it is somehow much more appealing to kids than water from kitchen taps! Including modern, hi-tech features is a great way to interest the kids and encourage them to get involved. Adding a smoothie maker or a juicer can encourage healthy living and help them to get their recommended five fruit and vegetables a day.

So there we are; some simple kitchen design ideas that can help you to create a kitchen that looks great, serves the family well and can bring the whole house together.

Update The Look Of Your Kitchen And Increase The Value Of Your Home

May 4th, 2011

If you are looking into increasing the value of your home, then you can do so by updating your kitchen. Remodeling your kitchen will increase the overall value of your home, especially when done properly. This is because when buyers are inspecting your home, they are mainly looking at the bathroom and the kitchen. This is especially true for most women who loves to have a great looking kitchen that is easy to use. So if you want to attract a lot more potential buyers by updating your current kitchen, then read on through this article was we explain how you can increase the value of your home through kitchen remodeling!

Before you begin, careful planning is necessary and critical. When I say planning, I mostly mean sorting out your budget so that you can get the most for your money. It’s really easy to spend too much money when it comes to remodeling, so don’t fall into this trap and stick to a very tight budget that you can afford! Try not to be put off too much with every fancy appliance that you see in your local store!

Begin by checking the quality of your kitchen cabinets. Most often than not, all they will need is to add a new layer on them. Check all the hinges and make sure that they are in perfect working order. If people come to view your home, they will check every inch of your kitchen I assure you. If you are in need of new kitchen cabinets, then just make sure that you get custom made ones and nothing pre made. The reason I say this is because when you have them made professionally, not only will you get loads of beautiful cabinets, but you will get that long lasting quality that house buyers will love to see. This alone will automatically increase the value of your house! So, take care of your budget, but don’t be afraid to spend on necessary appliances like custom made kitchen cabinets!

Have a look at the lighting that you are currently using. Sometimes lights can make a kitchen look dull and even more boring than it already is. Invest in some new ceiling lights that fill the kitchen revealing its every bit of beauty. Don’t have them too bright though or the dazzling effect will put potential buyers off your house. This may not necessarily increase the value of your house, but when it comes to presenting the house to a buyer, it could make all the difference.

Remodeling doesn’t have to be expensive in order to make your house worth more. See what jobs you can do yourself, and see which you need to hire people in for. It is likely that hiring someone to do the tiling will become very pricey so try and to the tiling on the floor yourself. Tiling is a great way to increase your house’s value, a new shiny floor will attract hordes of potential buyers! So, if you can do that yourself, then even better! Your budget may not allow you otherwise! So always make sure when you do hire, that you can afford it. However, when it comes to your kitchen cabinets, you should always get this done by professional cabinet makers and your house’s value will increase like there’s no tomorrow!

How To Remodel Your Kitchen – What Kitchen Cabinets Should I Buy?

April 27th, 2011

I don’t know about you, but remodeling my kitchen has also been a pain. It’s usually the kitchen cabinets that I struggle with the most. There have been numerous amount of times that I have needed to put up nicer looking kitchen cabinets and not have known how to do it the right way. In fact, most of the time I just end up making a complete mess of it and nobody in the family likes it the slightest! It’s always a bit of a task to know how to go about buying the right kitchen cabinets for you and your kitchen. Read on and discover all you need to know in order to make the right decisions.

The first thing you need to consider is – what is my style? If you don’t know what style you like, then you are going to struggle already. Perhaps you need something that either suits your own needs or the needs of the rest of your family. Also, you need something that can suit your current kitchen style as well, for space issues and for design purposes. It is necessary the amount of available space that you have in your kitchen for your new cabinets. So it might be a good idea if you measure up all the space that you have free and bear that in mind when you order your new cabinets. There is of course no point in buying kitchen cabinets that are way too big for the space that you have free. If this is what you will do then everything is just going to get cramped up and ease of use will be completely absent. If you are buying for a completely empty kitchen, then your options will be endless!

Always bear in mind your budget when it comes to buying your kitchen cabinets! If you are planning to buy new cabinets for your kitchen, make sure that everything remains within your budget. Sometimes when I buy some great looking cabinets, I always tend to spend too much on some of them, and end up having to buy cheaper ones that don’t match! This either wastes my time, or makes my kitchen look completely awkward. Not good seeing as I needed it to look good for when I sell it on. That is the predominant reason why homeowners will want to improve the look of their kitchen – so they can sell it on for lots of profit. When that is the case, your budget is even more important!

What should you be looking for though when you actually buy your cabinets? When you are in the stores looking for a kitchen cabinet that you wish to buy for your home, don’t be afraid to inspect and have a closer look at them, check the hinges, open and close the cabinet doors and see how they feel. Normally if the hinges make a squeaking sound, this means the quality of the hinges are not great, and you may want to buy your own, but it’s not vital. It is wise to look at the corners too, just to make sure that they are reinforced. Don’t just use your eyes, go ahead and have a feel over the surfaces of the cabinets with your hands. If they feel rough, then move on to the next ones, this is a sign of cheap production and will show over time.

So there you have it, always bear all these factors in mind when it comes to remodeling your kitchen and buying kitchen cabinets. Installing cabinets can be extremely tricky at times if you don’t know what you are doing, or don’t have the correct equipment. If this is the case, then you may want to hire someone to do it. Nevertheless, if you want the best kitchen cabinets with the highest quality, it is, without a doubt, best to get a professional cabinet maker to give you your dream kitchen. With professional cabinet makers, you won’t have to worry about getting ripped off on quality like you probably will do in most stores these days. You might just regret not getting a professional cabinet maker. Cabinets that can be found in your local area is always a great choice.

Adding new cabinets to your Spokane kitchen, can give it a completely new look. Kitchen Design Topics: Countertops

April 19th, 2011

If cabinets are the ‘cake’ of luxury kitchen design, then countertops are most definitely the cherry on top. Long gone are the days of just opting for the most sympathetic granite laminate for fitted kitchens. Today, countertops come in a wealth of quality materials and a spectrum of colours. They can hold a whole kitchen design together or make a bold statement as a stand out feature. And it is worth taking the time to get this right. In much the same way as an artist selects their canvas with care, your countertops should offer you the perfect work surface and be a real pleasure to use.

Your choice in countertops will naturally be affected by the cabinetry and other elements within your fitted kitchen, but do be aware of the multitude of options available to you. For exceptional interior design in London, choose a company which specializes in kitchen design. They will be able to offer the greatest choice in fitted kitchens and will have the experience to guide you.

When you start thinking about countertops decide first what your style is and what look you are trying to achieve with your kitchen design. If you are drawn to sleek, contemporary fitted kitchens, consider corian, or even glass or stainless steel for that extra wow factor. Real wood countertops are another option and also lend themselves to the more traditionally styled fitted kitchen, where you might also expect to see granite and marble worktops. For a more rustic kitchen design, butcher block and tiled countertops can add real charm. It is important however, not to feel fettered by these conventional choices. Interior design in London is fresh and innovative, so do not be afraid to think outside the box.

Consider too how your kitchen will be used. For example, if you breakfast there, a kitchen design which adapts a worktop into a breakfast bar could be a smart option. If you do a lot of cooking, installing hot rods will give a heat proof space for hot pans. If your fitted kitchen will be subject to lots of wear and tear, discuss durable and/or scratch resistant materials with your interior design consultant in London. If you entertain in your fitted kitchen, consider curved corners for a sleek finish and to open up your space.

Countertops have a big impact on the look of a finished kitchen but are far from the whole story. To achieve a high-end luxury finish for your fitted kitchen, you are well advised to appoint a company who not only specialises in interior design in London, but who is committed to finessing your kitchen design — from your countertops right down to the smallest details.

Wooden Kitchen Furniture – The Way to Shop for Furniture

February 26th, 2011

If you are thinking about giving your house a new look that will impress your friends and visitors, then you will want to make sure that you concentrate on how you decorate and furnish the kitchen. This is a strange but important factor as in most gatherings, people love to stand in the kitchen and have cocktails. The kitchen can also be the place where people will sit down to eat, if you have a though kitchen-dining room, be it a dinner party or just a regular night at home. The important thing to remember is that if you want to feel at home and impress your friends, you are going to want some sturdy and stylish furniture that will give your kitchen a timeless and classic look. This is why you will want to consider some wooden kitchen furniture.

Shopping for Wooden Kitchen Furniture

When you are shopping for wooden kitchen furniture, you are going to be tempted to go to a local wooden furniture store. This makes sense, especially since you may have already purchased furniture from this same store and you feel safe about it. One thing you should be aware of, however, is that in today’s world you actually have more options for furniture than ever before. In other words, you have the option to buy furniture from virtually anywhere in the world. The best part is that you can do this global shopping without even having to leave your house. In other words, we are talking here about the internet. If you want the best deals on the highest quality furniture, you need to go online.

Searching Online for Kitchens

When you are shopping online for wooden kitchen furniture, you need to be sure that you are looking at only the best options that are being offered to you for the most affordable prices. This might seem tough to do at first because there are so many different options. You might even feel overwhelmed at first. This makes perfect sense. You shouldn’t become discouraged, however. Instead, you need to begin using customer reviews that will help you to navigate your way through the online shopping experience.

Customer Reviews Are a Great Source of Information

Customer reviews are the best way to find the wooden kitchen furniture online. Although many are planted by businesses themselves, or on their behalf, many are indeed genuine. The Social Media sites like Twitter and Facebook can also be useful. Go to these sites and check around for comments, you can even do a search on Twitter for the business name to see if anyone has mentioned them.

Whatever, with some careful research you will be able to find affordable furniture that is both stylish and sturdy. The best part is that you will really enjoy the convenience of shopping online. You will be able to shop and have the furniture delivered right to your home without ever having to leave your living room or office. This is the meaning of modern shopping convenience.

Fitted kitchen furniture can look truly stunning and beautiful, whilst being totally practical. Graham Baylis, who loves cooking, appreciates high quality kitchen furniture more than most. See Conquest’s site for more info and pictures of solid wood kitchen furniture.

Kitchen Faucets – What To Think About When Buying A New Kitchen Faucet

December 14th, 2010

Have you ever wanted to remodel your kitchen and thought about what it would be like with a new kitchen faucet? It is a huge part of the new kitchen as it is a place where you will spend a lot of time. Deciding what kitchen faucet to get is a big important choice that you have to make. The best way to know what kind of faucet to get is to think about the overall theme of the room you are decorating. Is it modern, vintage, victorian, lots of silver etc?

If you don’t know what theme your room has do not buy a kitchen faucet to fast! It will most likely not fit the room and will look strange. You cannot have a modern faucet in a victorian style kitchen etc. A better alternative is to get a victorian style kitchen faucet as well.

There are also many functions that play a role in what faucet to get. Do you want single or double handles? Turning knobs or a moving handle? Do you want a light indicating if the water is hot or cold? There are a lot of new really cool features that appear on many modern kitchen faucets that many do not know about. Some get a faucet with the additional dishing-hose for washing their plates. That is a pretty cool feature and suits a modern style kitchen very well.

These are just some of the fundamental things that you need to look at. There are many various brands of kitchen faucets that help you design your new kitchen in a nice way. I recommend that you talk to a couple of hardware and kitchen/remodeling stores before you make a final decision. Also look around many websites to get an idea of what kinds of kitchen faucets are availiable for purchase that might suit your specific kitchen.

I think that spending a bit of money on a more luxurious kitchen faucet is well worth the investment, because of the increased look and function as well as material. A little bit more expensive faucet that is built by the best materials that won’t rust or need to be cleaned as much is a smart investment into your home as many low-budget faucets tend to wear out faster and need repairing etc. If you have the money, I recommend that you go get a little bit pricier kitchen faucet and keep it for a long time!
